Ciao a tutti (hello all in Italian apparently?). This week we returned to Glooston village hall (fast becoming the MVSC club house) and were treated to Caroline’s Italian Bolognese (who knew you can buy Gluten free pasta?). 35 riders took advantage of the food on offer and mine was delicious. The ‘Inclined Plane’ beer was also superb and as usual the service that Caroline, Paul, Phil and Tair provided was lovely. Thanks all.

There were three led rides – Pete and May’s (14 miles), Nick Fenwick’s (17.8) miles and mine at (21.7) miles. Once again the weather was kind with no rain but there was a brisk South Westerly wind that we certainly felt on the return up the valley on the long ride.

There was no specific E-bike group this week as James Peake (the E-Bike ride leader) was away. It was easy for those riders to join in with one of the other groups though

I believe Nick Fenwick led his group along Welham Lane which was a bit mucky and a rider punctured late on in the ride. George in our group had a fall due to not unclipping in time at the road closed barrier at the ford in Melbourne but thankfully nothing more than his pride was injured. Pete and May’s group was a little fragmented at the end due in part (I reckon) to Chris having a nice chat with friends outside of the Bakers arms as we (the long ride group) passed him in Thorpe Langton. This meant that we were first back to the hall and also first at the bar – so thanks!

Everyone paid for their meals too which is always a bonus and we had a bit of a laugh about it all – I guess as we all get older the chances of it happening will increase! Next week see’s us return to the Bell at Gumley. Please can those that choose to eat remember to order and pay for their food before the ride to avoid any confusion? We’ll let the pub know that’s the plan and ask that they take names with the order so they know who’s ordered what.

The week after that (12th June) we’ll be at the Cock Inn at Peatling Magna where there isn’t any food other than bar snacks but the beer is excellent (one of my favourite pubs) and it will give us the opportunity to take the groups along routes less travelled. Myself and Jane won’t be at the Bell next week as we’re away but have a great ,safe ride and thanks as always for the support and great turnout. Finally, congratulations to our favourite MVSC dentist Colin Storry who puts down his drill for the last time today (Thursday). Enjoy your well deserved retirement matey and expect your golf handicap to improve with more time on the course.

Nick Timms.
