News – The Bell, Gumley

We were treated to fine weather, routes, food and beer this week at the wonderful ‘Bell’ in Gumley. There were three led rides – Pete Condon’s 13 miler, Nick Fenwick’s 17 miler (with some good hills) and Phil Rayner’s 22 miler that was pretty flat and fast until the last climb up the infamous ‘Heart Attack Hill’ before Gumley. David Palmer snapped his rear mech cable early on meaning quite tough pedalling going up and spinning like an egg whisk going down. The last climb saw him doing a bike of ‘hike-a-bike’ too.

Pete’s group split into two due to numbers and for safety reasons (thanks to Stuart Thornhill for taking on the additional leader duties) whilst the long ride seemed to be riding in one’s, two’s, three’s at times (some peloton discipline training required according to Phil!). Nicks group all got back in one piece but were likely to be feeling those hills this morning?

Another excellent turn out at Gumley

A well earned drink after the ride

It was great to meet Rachel Williamson who plans to ride more with us in the future and as luck would have it I had a spare ladies MVSC jersey that she’ll be wearing next week (and she bought one of the last 4 neck buffs too so thanks). Due to the jersey manufacturer suppling two in the wrong size I now also have two new short sleeves in large if anyone missed out on this years order  – please let me know if you’d like one.

Great food and beer as everyone relaxes

I can’t believe there’s only two rides left this season -where did the summer go (at times it didn’t seemed like it arrived given the weather) and next week see’s the ride move to the iconic Fox and Goose in Ilston on the Hill. The final ride will be at the brilliant Glooston village Hall and Woodsman’s Bar. Caroline will be dishing up a chicken there’s also a veggie option. Pete will be putting up a food choice selector again on the website in the near future so please don’t forget to order your choices as it’s bound to be a busy last ride.

A few of us are travelling out to ride some of the high mountains in the French Pyrenees next week so there will be some other leaders helping out (thanks to them all for their assistance). We’ll get some photos in the MVSC jerseys at the top of some insane climb no doubt for the website gallery.

Have a safe and enjoyable ride on Wednesday and see you all in a couple of weeks.

Photos’ attached as usual for you all to have a look through too.

Nick Timms.
